Argor a-C

Argor a-C is the hydrogen-free amorphous carbon coating deposited using sputtering PVD technology at temperatures below 120°C and therefore suitable for a wide range of substrates. The standard coating thickness is 1 - 2 µm (customised thicknesses are available on request).

VDI abbreviation a-C
Process PVD Sputtering
Structure Amorphous
sp3 fraction [%] 25-40
Color Black
Thickness 1-2 µm
Max. operating temperature [°C] 450
Hardness [GPa] 9-14
Friction coefficient 0.15

All data given are approximate values, depending on application, environment and test conditions. Coating hardness HIT [GPa] Measured by nano indentation according to ISO 14577. The hardness can be adapted to the application. Coefficient of friction (dry) versus steel determined by dry disc ball test with a steel ball according to ASTM G99. These values may be exceeded during run-in. Maximum service temperature [°C] These are approximate values.

Argor a-C has the following advantages:
- suitable for machine components and subject to frictional wear
- low process temperature, allowing a wider range of substrate materials
- wide application range in textile machinery
